Well, I have completely neglected this blog for approximately one year and three months. So here’s a quick run down of the happenings for the last 15 months.

Spring 2011 – Gall bladder attack. Easily the most painful experience of my life. Surgically removed that sucker forever changing my eating habits (Carnivore – Almost Vegan). On the plus side, I’ve dropped a ton of flab around my gut which has enabled me to fit back into pants that I gave up on long ago.

Late Spring / Early Summer 2011 – My friend Rick W. took a job in the San Jose area as the Head of Schools for Los Gatos Christian School and we began talking about a spot up there for me.

Summer 2011 – I was offered and accepted a position as IT Support at Los Gatos Christian School. We packed up the family and with the generous help of my folks we purchased a mobile home in Sunnyvale anticipating a long stay in the bay area.

Early Fall 2011 – Things start to go bad at the new job. Enrollment at the school is down and we are forced to take a 10% pay cut. We are already on a razor thin budget as it is and the additional cut hurts, bad.

Late Fall 2011 – My boss informs me that he may be ushered out the door as early as Christmas. My position is shaky because of the budget cuts and the fact that the ‘in house’ computer consultant’s billing has increased since I arrived (the plan was to phase him out).

Christmas 2011 – We enjoyed our first Christmas alone (without any extended family) for the first time in over 15 years, probably won’t happen ever again.

Early 2012 – My boss was canned. Outlook for work here in San Jose looks bleak.

Mid-Early 2012 – We put our house on the market and I start searching for jobs in SoCal.

Mid-Late-Early 2012 – I land a job at Bio-Rad in Irvine and we are making preparations to head back to the family compound.

Now we’re up to speed.

kinda.

Until recently the dishwasher has been a lovely appliance, lately it’s been me. We’ve had an off and on relationship with dishwashers over the years…

When we got married, our first place didn’t have a dishwasher. That was alright, because we were in wedded bliss and didn’t care if a sink full of dirty dishes sat for more than a day.

Our first Condo had a dishwasher and we realized that we were stupid in wedded bliss. The dishwasher is one amazing appliance.

Our first house in the country didn’t have a dishwasher and we thought we could tough it out and wash dishes by hand.

When our son was born, we were enlightened as to exactly how fragile we are. A dishwasher was quickly installed into our kitchen.

When we moved from the country back to the beach, the house we moved into didn’t have a dishwasher and we mourned our loss and gnashed our teeth.

Finally we moved to the house we are now in, a dishwasher wasn’t installed. We fixed that in short order.

That, my dear friends is our dishwasher story.

So the other day I started a new diet (4hr body) and after two days I’m already down 5lbs. I don’t necessarily know if that’s good or if I am so fat that 5lbs is nothing. Anyhow, in my reading it was recommended that eggs should be cooked with ghee. Being intreigued, by a new cooking method for what has now become a staple of my diet I thought to give it a try. Alas, no ghee in my local grocery store. However, being a man of the internetz I found that ghee is nothing more than butter cooked down and separated from the milk solids (how to make ghee).

Now, instead of just one buttery wonder product I have TWO! Ghee, is simply amazing, but it’s the milk solids that have the family and I in absolute wonder this evening. Taking the silky, creamy, salty milk solids and adding them to airpop popcorn is as close to nirvana that we can imagine.
